Blogging. There are many blog strategies online. Videos, and courses on making and running a profitable blog. They train you how to become a machine in this attention-seeking world. But there’s one thing they never mention. You must be okay with exploiting a part of who you are.
I get it niches are money pits. Someone is having a bad day and needs to find a way to escape it. So your hope as a content creator is to feed that anxious part of them continuously. But obviously, you can’t fully solve the problem or tell them how to, otherwise you lose them as a reader. I know I sound bitter and I’m not. I’m just exploring who I want to be in the internet landscape. And it’s not going to be someone that can profit from you. My bohemian spirit betrays me and unintentionally creates shitty content. So first I’m going to share why the blogging strategies didn’t work for me and then talk about what I’ll write about instead. In case you’re still reading 🙂
Why blogging strategies don’t work
You have to continuously sell
I am a tree-hugging-conscious consumer. I only purchase what I need and when I purchase something I do a ton of research to see how the product or service is delivered to see if it aligns with my morals. Needless to say, I’m pretty minimal. So how does this hurt blogging strategies?
Well, first I could never be an Amazon affiliate or encourage you to purchase something because it seldom happens. I’m not constantly trying new products so you can’t rely on me for reviews. And lastly, what do people search for more than anything? Whether or not they should buy something. So goodbye to that audience. As Sophia Lee says people don’t care about you, they only care about themselves. So you have to provide content they’ll want. Well sorry the things I want in life can’t be purchased so I can share what’s in my head and what I’m experiencing. But the things that fuel profit just don’t align with me.
SEO keywords and trending topics make a world of difference when it comes to blogging. I’ve been blogging about career success for the last 6 months and my readership rates have been low. And I get it. It’s not fully authentic and it doesn’t provide a solution you can. buy.
You have to work in a niche
Good job to all those people who have decided there’s one thing they love and have found different ways to express it. It is not easy and you quickly lose interest in what you’re doing. I can’t do it and I don’t want to do it. My tiktok and Instagram are pretty random but I’m talking about my life and it’s not linear. Definitely when I’m still discovering who I want to be in this life.
If you can niche down then yes blogging strategies could work for you. Personally – it feels too robotic.
Being relevant is more important than being yourself
What do people talk about and want to know about? What’s popular and what’s happening in culture. For example beauty gurus. Don’t get me wrong I love them they’re artists. But you have to question if there would be that many makeup enthusiasts during other times in history. No. Not at all. It’s become popular and it has become an option. So what options haven’t been discovered? Maybe there are people who are sharing a part of themselves to align with a market. For example, I was writing about career success because I’ve had a lot of it. However, it’s probably the most boring part of who I am.
What’s interesting about me is what’s interesting about you. We’re all just trying to figure it out. And I’m trying to figure out where I lost a part of my childhood ambitions and how I can honor that side of myself while being a successful adult. Yes, I’m talking about how I used to pursue acting and now work in corporate America.
All I’m saying is everyone has a story and our first reaction is to tell someone’s story in hopes that we’ll be seen.
The bots are out to get us
To have a successful blog you have to do all this work so that Google and the different internet algorithms trust you. One thing bloggers encourage you to do when starting is to post on Pinterest like a maniac. Ultimately we’re adding to all the noise. Posting multiple versions of the same thing so the bots will trust us? They are so easily switched on and off. On tiktok there’s shadow baning, on Amazon affiliates keep losing their commission and now you can pay on Instagram to get your content out more?
This is ridiculous. If we keep going in this direction we’ll be paying to be seen. The internet will no longer be a form of income for influencers. Unless they have special connections or friends. Kind of like the movie industry.
What’s next
Art, art, and some more art. I finally finished writing a book after ten years of being pregnant and three of writing. It’s currently with the editor. So I’ll be talking about that process. What I’m learning and experiencing. Next, I’ll be chatting about illustrating. I’ve drawn my whole life. It’s helped me in the most anxious of moments.
Recently I’ve started playing with new mediums and dedicating more time to them. Why only do it when I feel anxious? Lastly, I’m going out more than ever. I spent my whole life not wanting to spend money so I could supplement my acting classes, and acting expenses and I’m not doing that anymore. So I decided I’m going to start living my life. And stop waiting for someone to give me the opportunity to try and fall in love with different things. I wonder if this is what a gypsy feels like. It sure is freeing.
Conclusion
If you have found yourself in an office job and are not sure how you got there, then this blog will relate to you. If you’re someone who would classify themselves as an artist and no longer do suspiciously enough, then this blog will relate to you. If you’re someone who is dating yourself and trying to let go of the fear of making the wrong choices in life then this blog will relate to you.
This blog is not for you if you have money you’re looking to spend or want an easy solution to life’s many problems.
Full transparency I created this blog for one sole reason. I want to give my book the best possible chance to be read by someone who needs it or would like it. So if you like my whimsical way of saying the simplest things then maybe we can be friends and maybe I will indeed have something that you like. And if not. Not a problem I’ve failed many times in life. I just can’t fail myself.
