9 Self development at work affirmations to use when times get Tough

self development at work

A job is a place where you go to work. It’s challenging and you’re constantly fighting to be liked and valued. So you know having some self development at work affirmations could save you a lot of heartaches when times get tough. Well, this post will walk you through 9 of the best and how they can connect to your life.

One thing corporate has done is it’s made me way more spiritual. Things can move so fast and sometimes you need to catch your breath and remember that you need to win yourself over before anyone else matters. So I worked diligently on changing my need to please others by focusing on myself.

Well after I did this my work got better, my working relationships improved and I now feel like I’m in the driver’s seat of my life. And the drive is a calm and peaceful one. After reading this post you’ll have words that can ground you and remind you of your value.

This post is all about self development at work affirmations.

Self Development at work affirmations

1) Everyone wants to work with me.

No matter your job you will be interacting with others. This could either be in the form of your coworkers, your clients, or both. Being in this position leads you to deal with different needs, and different personalities and ultimately leaves you very vulnerable to others. To their energy, their moods and that dictates the experience you share with them.

So what do you do to prepare and protect yourself? You believe that everyone wants to work with you. That everyone needs you as much as you need them and that you’re all in this together. Because at the end of the day, all those things are true and what they may be going through is not personal. In fact, it’s really none of your business. However, their presence signifies either their or the company’s need for you two to work together.

So never forget that everyone needs you way more than you need them.

2) Only good can come from this.

Nothing in life is black and white. We live in shades of grey. No matter how big a mistake or error you may create there’s always an opportunity to learn from it. So even the worst situations could be the best because they lead you to learn something new. Or you may discover how resilient and resourceful you can be.

So as you question your capabilities and find yourself in new situations only two outcomes are possible. One is you succeed. The second is you learn. There’s is no other result.

Believing only good can come from this is more about believing in yourself and your worth than “failing”. And what is failing? It’s to just stop. It’s impossible to fail if you never stop moving forward.

3) This is preparing me for the opportunities I’ll have in the future.

They say your life only makes sense when you look backward. Then you’re able to connect the dots and see how one place or opportunity leads you to the next. It can be a bit annoying at times. Especially when you’re trying to find your place in life. But this is where you need to learn how to have faith.

Obstacles do not reveal themselves to you because the world wants to test you and dig you into a hole. They reveal themselves because it exists on the path you decided to take. And it can either stop you from moving forward or help inform you as you follow your yellow brick road.

That’s why it’s important to remember that these challenges are there for you. They’re there to guide you as you go down your path.

4) I am lucky.

Recently I read about a study where people who defined themselves as lucky were lucky because they have the ability to look outside of what is directly in front of them. And this leads to other opportunities others may not see. In the study, people were told to count the number of times a specific word was used in an article and if they got the number right they would win $100. Well in the article one sentence said if you found this sentence stop with the assignment and collect $500. Well, those who defined themselves as lucky were not fixated on counting words and ended up winning in the long run.

So don’t isolate yourself from different opportunities that you’re not aware of. Believing you’re lucky brings luck into your life because you’re opening yourself up to things that haven’t been meticulously planned.

5) This company cares about me and my well-being.

Your company needs you way more than you need them. So of course they’ll need their employees to be happy and well taken care of. Without you, they’d never be able to make things happen.

At times this may not be the case. And when that happens make sure to file a complaint and/or quit. I’m not going to go into details about what an unhealthy work environment looks like but ultimately ask yourself if you are happy there and why. This is a good starting point when you’re trying to articulate your thoughts.

Otherwise, allow yourself to be taken care of. Believe that they care about you or at least remind yourself that this is the case. Having this perspective allows you to build trust with your company and confidence in yourself. Two things that are desperately needed if you want to provide value, create an impact, and reach your highest potential.

6) My boss is protecting me.

In a job, the last thing you want is to be in competition with your boss. You also don’t want to be analyzing what intentions they may have for you. Again this could be a toxic relationship but please talk to your Human Resources representative to see if that’s the case.

Nonetheless, remember your boss is your partner. You work together at a company to get things done. To make things happen and this can only occur if you’re both on the same page. It’s like dating, if you are questioning whether you can trust the other person the whole time, then you’ll never be able to have a relationship that isn’t stifling.

When you believe that your boss is protecting you then it gives you the ability to feel supported and that means everything. Especially in the corporate world.

7) I have the ability to make a massive impact.

I don’t care what your position is you have the opportunity to create a change and make an impact. People get stuck on their titles or they use the excuse that’s above my pay grade and that hinders you from growing and developing.

When I was a receptionist I didn’t care. I did everything I could to make those I was interacting with feel well taken cared of and appreciated. I only spent six months as a receptionist because people kept emailing my boss about how great I was. I was moved to a higher-level position.

This occurred after someone dropped their credit card into the cracks of a turnstile. I said I could get it out. I got on my hands and knees and got it out after the facilities team told me it was impossible. Does that sound like the job of a receptionist? No, it’s not.

Don’t allow yourself to be tied to where you’re standing.

8) Everything in my life has led me to this point.

After we’ve seen so much luck and opportunities come our way we question whether we’re able to meet standards. We may question our capabilities for fear of failing.

Trust that the doors are opening for you because you’ve already gone through every window. Anything you have done has led you to this. You’re amazing and the master of your sail.

So when you get nervous about letting others down, know you’ve already exceeded all of their expectations and it’s time for you to accept what you deserve. Because you deserve it all and you will naturally rise up to the occasion when given a chance.

9) I am growing and developing at a missle-like speed (self development at work – at its best)

Your potential is endless. There is no end to growing and developing and if you continue to work on improving yourself you’ll notice that you’re changing faster than you can keep up with.

Well, don’t slow yourself down. Sure take stock of all you’ve done and all you’re working on but baby you’re a rocket. And you got to let yourself fly. Sometimes you may feel like you’re having an outer body experience when you think of the person that you’ve become. It could be a bit overwhelming.

Honestly, it’s a bit overwhelming for me but then I just think about being a rocket and I remind myself that I could also grow and develop and move at missle-like speed. So don’t let the thought scare you. Let it empower you. You’ll need it where you’re going.

9 Must Haves to include in your Development Plan

Development Plan

It’s soo easy to become fixated on hustle culture. On creating a bad azz development plan that will take you to new heights and lead you to all the opportunities you could ever want. One problem is that these plans don’t take into account that you’re a whole human being and you need to be satisfied in multiple areas in order to be your best. This post will take you through what those 9 categories are and how you can tune into each one.

I’ve tried all my life to become a robot. To be incredibly hardworking and successful and it was a miserable time. We underestimate our value and we forget that in order to grow and develop we need to think about every part of our lives. And when you’re fixated on one thing like your career then you don’t realize how life could be way more satisfying. Also what you do outside of work completely affects your work-life.

I mean I’m sure we’ve all seen those influencers or celebrities that seem to have it all. And they do because they work to have it all. Each category needs its moment to shine. And once you make time for all nine of these items you’ll realize how easy it is to live your dream life. I could hardly believe that I could make time for it all. But now that I’ve started, I’m falling in love with myself and it’s amazing.

Not only will these items lead you to become a boss, but this is literally how to date yourself. So get ready for a whirlwind romance.

This post is all about what you need to include in your development plan in order to become a major boss.

9 Items for your Development Plan

1) Physically Challenging

Granted if your job is labor intensive then no need to find activities to fulfill this side of you. However for all of us who spend hours every day sitting in front of a screen – well listen up. It is not natural. We were given five senses in order to use them. After all, they say sitting is the new cigarette for a reason. It’s totally bad for your health.

And I get it. It’s hard to make time for something that takes so much energy and time. But once you build the habit it actually ends up fueling you.

Start not only by looking for something physical but make sure that it’s challenging. Walking around in circles will do you no good. So join a gym, learn a sport or take a class. Your body is waiting for you.

2) Mentally Stimulating

Unless your job is a constant challenge where your responsibilities are changing every other month don’t skip this step. We actually become stupider when we’re not using our full capabilities. Also preparing for the future or possible opportunities will only help you in the long run.

I’m a huge lover of taking classes to learn something new but if you don’t have the ability to fully engross yourself in a new subject outside of work then open yourself to other avenues of learning.

This could be as simple as reading something new, watching smart tv, or listening to podcasts. When I say smart tv I mean national geographic, documentaries, and conversations led by world leaders. Something that gives you an understanding of the world around you and how things operate. And not just a bunch of people who are clearly trying to sell you something and are in desperate need of attention.

3) Spiritually fulfilling

We all need some space for ourselves. A space where we feel supported and can freely express or entertain our beliefs. The most classic example of this is attending church or following a specific religion.

But it could also include yoga, ideas revolving around manifestation, practicing an art form, or all of it.

All that matters is you have a place where you can be completely vulnerable. Where you go to find peace and quiet. We live in such a fast and loud world, if you don’t take the time to ground yourself, you’ll blow away.

4) Nutritionally Beneficial

Health is wealth and you are what you eat. Make sure you’re choosing foods that fuel you and don’t harm you in the long run. Sometimes there’s an art form to finding the perfect balance.

Let’s say you love coffee, but you can’t sleep at night because you drink it all day. Well, that’s no good. That’s harming you. So don’t do that. Make sure your nutritional habits align with what you want and what you desire out of life.

We all know the more colorful our food the healthier it is and the less processed we eat, the better we’ll be off. Open yourself up to learning about different cuisines by eating at different restaurants. And go to farmer’s markets to discover new fruits and vegetables.

5) Socially Exciting

We are a society that is built on community. So take the time to be a part of one. It’s so easy to think no I need to focus on this or that, or no I can’t spend money on that. And believe me, those are the excuses I used for years and it only hurt me in the long run.

Having others that you can connect with and that you can laugh with and share with is such a beautiful part of life. It makes things more fun, you learn more about yourself and it gives you something to look forward to.

So don’t turn down those coffee chats. And if you’re not being invited to anything then invite someone else out. You could also do this by joining a class or starting a random conversation with someone on the street. Not everything needs to be done via an app 🙂

6) Educationally Enlightening

Unlike mental stimulation whose sole purpose is to get you to like thinking, educationally enlightening is about learning something new. Now, this can fall into the realm of something physical. For example, I’m learning how to swim. This is educational in that it’s something new that I’m learning how to do. Something else that could be educationally enlightening is learning more about your communication skills and maybe even your love language.

At the end of the day, we should constantly be working to better ourselves and that means learning something new that will adjust or change our way of life. Or at least our perspective on it.

Also, it could be quite thrilling to learn something that could lead you to have an epiphany. For example, I love therapy because I’m constantly learning new things about the different relationship dynamics in my life.

7) Logically Comprehensible

Whatever your goal or plan is make sure there is a level of reality in them. There need to be steps that you can take now and they need actual deadlines and plans attached to them. Once they go into the realm of something that is not accessible (at the moment) then it’s purely delusional.

For example, my goal can’t just be to go to Mars and think that I’m going to get there by writing Elon Musk a letter. No, I need to know what skill sets and diplomas I need to achieve before even being considered, and then I can work towards those.

Sometimes we think our dreams are impossible but that’s never the case. It’s that you’re working towards the wrong goal. You need to get to the hill before you can climb it.

8) Motivational

One thing I absolutely love about the influencer culture is how easy it is to find someone motivational. I’m obsessed with watching the lives of those I admire. It brings me comfort and encouragement.

And believe me, if you’re going to be working towards achieving anything in life it’ll be hard and you’ll want that carrot on a stick to nudge you forward.

Obviously, your motivation doesn’t have to come in the form of an influencer, it could be an idea, a vision board, someone you know, or anything that makes you happy. Just make sure it’s a flame that you can keep lit.

9) Childlike Inspired

I’ve never liked the idea of losing your childhood ambitions or reality coming in and changing all of your dreams. It’s important to keep parts of your childhood that made you feel happy alive and well. And it doesn’t need to be something profitable or productive.

For example, I’ve always loved dancing and I once wanted to be a dancer. I don’t plan to pursue it as a career but doing dance classes now leaves me feeling giddy with excitement. Make sure that you allow yourself to have that escape. Maybe it’s something you can incorporate into your daily life, like my drawings. They mean the world to me, I’ve drawn all my life and I draw an image for every blog post. It has nothing to do with the blog post but I incorporate it because the writings inspire them and then I feel like I’m giving you all of me.

7 mind-blowing things you need to create your own Professional Development League

Professional Development LEAGUE

The Desire to be a superhero is beyond real. We all grow up watching these beings come down from the gods to save others and make the world a better place to live. It’s our desired fairy tale. For everyone to be well and do good, because of something we did. So where does a professional development league come from? Read this post to learn more.

A professional development league comes from the elements you need in your origin story to create a league or community of greatness. I’m all about being a world leader. Literally, my favorite topic to discuss is world domination.

Obviously in a philanthropic humanitarian way. Not as a dictator. So I’m constantly thinking about how to gain power and use it positively. And to do this you need to become a superhero. This post will walk you through those fantastical elements and how they can apply to you.

This post is all about how to create your own professional development league.

1) Villain

We all have something or someone that is in our way. This thing is causing havoc and absolute madness for you and your loved ones. If only you could banish it, then everyone could be free.

Also, the villain is what forces you to become great and provide greatness for others. Sometimes we blame this character for all the turmoil in our lives but really they’re just a compass trying to force us into going in the right direction.

So what does a villain look like in the mortal world? Sure it can be someone who is trying to cause you harm. It could be a cause or a global conflict that you care about. It could be the change you want to see in the world.

Ultimately the villain is not some person with a wicked laugh. The villain of your life is the evil you’d like to banish from this world. The best thing about deciphering this character is it fuels you. There’s nothing better than having something to fight for. Hey, it’s part of our animal instinct.

2) Gadgets

Here’s the truth. We’re all beyond amazing and ridiculously talented. Obviously, if you’re reading this you’re one sexy powerful overlord or at least on you’re way to becoming one. And what’s your most powerful asset? It’s your gadgets, powers, and what we can in the mortal realm – your actual skillsets.

This is what makes you special. What shows off your undeniable greatness. It’s like your theme song. So you know you need this to take over the world.

Seriously this could be anything from being good with money to someone that is super duper brave to someone that can speak multiple languages. Also, you could have more than one gadget in your back pocket. And unlike marvel characters, you don’t have to wait for an evil villain to attack your village to use your superpowers. You can work on them all day every day.

The important thing is you need to figure out what these magical gadgets are and you need to work on them. Use them to do good in the world no matter how small the task or challenge.

3) Past life/ deaths & losses of the past

We’ve all hit rough patches in our lives. Moments where we think, “really is this necessary?” We wonder what life would be like if we didn’t have this struggle, obstacle, or horrible defining moment.

As annoying as it is, this is a crucial moment. Every superhero went through some tragic beginning. They underwent something so horrible that all that matters to them is that no one experiences what they had gone through. After all, once you’ve learned how to make it through the darkness, why wouldn’t you want to share this information with others?

If life isn’t fair, you could make it fair by taking action. So you grow with this undeniable desire to take charge of your life and rescue others from this horrible deed.

In the mortal realm, this could look like becoming a bad azz tax accountant that helps people safeguard their livelihoods or a teacher who is determined to end bullying. Whatever your story, saving lives doesn’t have to be literal. You don’t need weapons or to hurt others in making the world great. That’s a completely hypocritical action to take that only adds more darkness to the world.

What’s better is helping others with the emotional and society-driven obstacles that they may face. Basically, it all connects back to the good you want to bring into the world and the villain you’d like to banish.

4) Setting

We’re born into a family and a country that we did not choose. It’s literally out of our control. And with this, we’re born into an environment and situation that has its own history of losing and winning.

Take a look at this environment and see if it’s asking anything from you. What can you do to be classified as a hero in their books? Is your community in desperate need of something? Could you do anything about the troubles and struggles your community is facing? Are you willing to water your own backyard before taking on the world?

Personally, I’m a first-generation American so nothing is more important to my parents than me having a stable job, safe living conditions, and a good working environment. They didn’t always have that growing up and I never take what I have for granted.

So take a look around and start being great today. I’m sure you know what that looks like. Also, it’s all about balance maybe this doesn’t correlate with the villain you’d like to banish. Well, that’s okay maybe there’s still a small step you can take regularly, like recycling.

5) Identity/ secret identity

We all act differently around different people. It’s not that we’re fake it’s that we have different levels of intimacy with different people. For example, you wouldn’t give your mailman your social security information or your medical history. Instead, you might like to talk to them about the weather and what’s occurring throughout the neighborhood.

Just like a superhero you have your game face on when it’s needed. During this time you’ll most likely be obsessed with your work and working towards a goal. But every now and then you step away to interact with other human beings. For example, you wouldn’t tell your newborn baby all of the details of what you’ll be pitching at your next meeting.

So take the time to decide what you want your game face or secret identity to look like. Maybe it’s a power suit, a hairstyle, or an accessory that brings out the best in you. The cool thing about having a secret identity or a game face is that it’ll become a part of you and what others see. Like how many tech people do we see now wearing black tops and glasses? Thank you, Steve Jobs.

6) Sidekick

Not all but most superheroes have a sidekick. They have that one person that they can rely on, who will help make things happen, support them and keep them motivated when times get tough. Also, they can add some comedic relief when things get dire.

Basically, they are amazing so why not have one? Having a partner in crime allows you to learn twice as fast. It allows you to create a greater impact on others. And makes the journey overall way more enjoyable.

A sidekick could be your coworker, your mentor, or a friend. You’re the main character of your life so all that you’re looking for from your sidekick is the support you. Once you have them you’ll be able to create a greater impact and hey maybe you’re the sidekick in their story.

7) Weak point

At the end of the day, we’re all humans. No one is perfect and it’s actually not attainable. So don’t try to be perfect. Don’t even try to pursue it.

With that being said, you do need to know what you’re not good at. If you know what your weakness is, you’ll know where you need help and what you need to work on. Knowing your weakness is a huge advantage because then no one can use it against you. You’ll have the power to decide when and how you address it.

Your weakness could come in the form of a physical activity that you’re not able to do. It could be that you’re not good at a specific subject. For example how many people say they’re not good at math? The answer is a lot. Your weak point should be something you’re actively trying to better while having an expert help you in this space.

If you can manage this and your expectations then you’ll never be caught off guard and slowly build confidence in an area that makes you feel vulnerable. So get on it.
